English Dub Review: Rock Is a Lady’s Modesty “Lady Version: I Want to be the Noble Maiden/ Rock Version: It Lets You Dance All Over Them”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
As Lilisa strives to become a refined lady for her mother’s sake, she unexpectedly encounters a former student who has been honored with the title of Noble Maiden.

Our Take:
The band has officially come together, though Lilisa’s quest to become a noble maiden remains her prime objective.  Amid its musical performances, the show doesn’t forget to remind viewers of Lilisa’s struggle to earn the title of “Noble Maiden”, so her mother will feel more welcome in the family.  Given her mother’s abnormal behavior, it’s becoming evident that Lilisa is only doing what her new family expects of her while hiding her true passion from them.  I can’t imagine what would happen if her mother found out what Lilisa’s really doing, nor do I want to.
This week’s episode further showcases Lilisa’s efforts to achieve that goal outside band practice.  However, her chance encounter with the actual Noble Maiden, Yayoi Takayanagi, ended up making Lilisa question her intent.  It turns out that Yayoi became a Noble Maiden just by contributing to monetary value.  Of course, what really pisses Lilisa off is Yayoi’s mockery of her passion for electric guitar, even though Yayoi played a harp during her time at Oshin Academy.  This allowed Lilisa to find a new way to express her anger through her guitar, which is a safer route to take than flipping Yayoi off, even though that bitch deserves the middle finger for what she said to her.
This episode further deepens Lilisa’s internal struggle between honoring her mother’s wishes and expressing herself through her musical talents, thanks to her encounter with the Noble Maiden.  With her seeing what she might become when she earns her “Noble Maiden” title, Lilisa is gradually pushing herself further into her guitar playing.  However, this choice could eventually put Lilisa in a difficult position, pitting her against her own mother and even her noble family.  If that moment were to happen, I won’t be surprised if any family drama were to escalate into unhealthy territory.
