English Dub Review: My Hero Academia “History’s Greatest Villain”

Overview:

The balance of power shifts between Izuku and Shigaraki when the latter steals a Quirk from One For All.

Our Take(Spoilers):

One of the reasons why I started to lose interest in this series was that the things that set it apart started to slip away. My Hero Academia is one of the biggest shonen series of this era, but what made it so fun was the fact that it didn’t fall into the same kind of traps that every other shonen did. Random power-ups and new abilities weren’t a thing; it was all about the characters learning how to use their one power in new and unique ways. Then Deku started “unlocking” new powers in One for All, and Shigiraki, it seems, had to follow suit in one way or another. He managed to take the danger sense power from Deku and absorb it for himself. How did he do this, you might ask? No clue, I rewinded the episode three times and was still lost.

This is still one of the best anime series of this decade, but it is mildly upsetting that it fell off so much in the story department. It looks like Deku will have to use his brains and guile to beat Shigiraki as opposed to pulling a new power out of his ass, so that should be good. I’m glad that the animation has remained so good because it carries the show for the most part.
