English Dub Season Review: A Couple of Cuckoos Season Two
Overview:
A lot has happened for Nagi Umino and Erika Amano: they were swapped at birth, learned of their engagement, and have started living under the same roof. The two now share their home with Nagi’s sister, Sachi, and his crush, Hiro Segawa. Despite this unusual domestic situation and frequent quarreling, the group is beginning to settle into life together.
Our Take(Spoilers):
Harem anime can be hit or miss, and while I wouldn’t go so far as to call this a miss, it sure isn’t a hit. The problem that a lot of harem’s fall into is that they keep adding and adding suitors for the main character until it gets a little bloated. I know that the idea is that if you have enough characters that everyone should resonate with one or two. The problem with that, though, is that unless you’re going to do an ending like Tenchi Muyo or High School DxD, where the main character gets with everyone, you’re going to disappoint some people.
The character that gets introduced in this season is Ai Mochizuki, a character that Nagi was in love with when he was a kid. So now all the tropes are accounted for, we have Erika, who is the first girl, Sachi, the sister who isn’t blood-related, and of course, we have Hiro, who’s Nagi’s current crush. Ai returns because Nagi confessed to her when they were young, and she is finally ready to respond. She loves Nagi and wants to be with him, but as we, the audience, know, things are a little complicated for him at the moment.
What set this show aside for me was the fact that Nagi was already in love with someone and was adamant that it wouldn’t change. But then Ai makes him hesitate a bit, and he also seems to be thinking about Sachi as a potential future partner. Not to mention how he already feels about Hiro, and he admits to being in love with Erika. This doesn’t seem like the type of story where he will end up with all of them, so it was a bit disappointing to see it go this way.
There’s no announcement about a third season, and while I like this show better than something like Rent-a-Girlfriend, which seems like it will never die, I don’t think we need another season of this either.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
