OUR TAKE

This week on Pass the Monster Meat, Milady, we finally get into the nitty gritty on how exactly Melphy (look, that name is too complicated to type out exactly the same every single time, so I’m using a nickname for now) has managed to make the monsters she is able to hunt into actual edible meals. Apparently it requires draining of both the monster’s blood and the toxic magic within them that make them otherwise dangerous to eat, and that draining requires use of a carved in magic rune and special flasks with which to contain the blood and magic. That’s a pretty interesting process to see play out, and showing how Aristide and his men contribute to making it easier illustrates just how much his group will be a big help to Melphy, who apparently was doing this as a one woman show since probably when her mother died. With everyone’s help, they’re all able to put together a big Royal Moodle barbeque and get everyone having fun while eating on a uniquely delicious meal they all chipped in to make happen. With all that wholesomeness and optimism, there should be no conflict in this episode, right? Well, not quite.

Remember that both Melphy and Aristide are people with not great reputations. They’re not exactly seen as bad people, but strange enough that they’ve been mostly shunned from polite society, with Aristade known as the “Blood Mad Duke” for his hunting obsession while Melphy is obviously ostracized for her focus on making Monster Meat. Both of them have clearly gotten used to being seen differently due to these brandings, so even when they’re amongst another person who is genuinely interested in the other as people, they can’t help but put up walls and try to tamper down expectations that there must surely be another reason this person is interested in them. It’s adorable, but also quite sad that they feel they need to protect themselves from another person with actual feelings for them. In fact, based on what we see in this episode, with one being obsessed with hunting and the other into making that hunting into great meals, they could in fact be the best match for the other. But we still have like nine more episodes of this to know that for sure, so we’ll see what comes up for this burgeoning couple in the next episode.
