English Dub Review: Lord of Mysteries “The Clown/Light”
OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)
Klein and Dunn battle the spawn of the True Creator, but at a terrible cost.
OUR TAKE
We come, at last, to the end of this first season of Lord of Mysteries (with two conflicting titles, Crunchyroll has one, Wikipedia has another, and I’m just gonna include both to be safe), concluding the fight against the spawn of the True Creator and saving the city if Tingen. It’s a bloody and vicious battle, even more so than the one from a couple episodes ago, but with Dunn’s obtaining of Saint Selena’s Ashes and sacrificing his own heart in order to use them, the spawn is defeated, though at the cost of Dunn’s life. Klein, also mortally wounded by the encounter, witnesses yet another comrade die, but can at least continue the work his friends sacrificed to keep going. And THEN…a hand pops out of Klein’s chest holding his heart and kills him. Well, only MOSTLY kills him, but we’ll get to that. The guy who mostly killed him is some butt munch named Ince Zagwell, who I guess has been mentioned before this point but I honestly can’t remember because of how much stuff I have to keep track of in this show. Yes, THIS asshole, with no lines of dialogue and little to no foreshadowing, is the one who (mostly) does our hero in after he’s survived the whole season, all so he could obtain those special ashes and use them to go from Sequence 5 to Sequence 4. Man, some people will do anything to level up. And I mostly mean that as a joke, but that may also just be one of the pitfalls of becoming an increasingly powerful Beyonder; becoming so obsessed with power that you do anything to go down a Sequence.
But yes, as implied, this is not the actual end for Klein, even though all of his surviving friends and family think so. We do get some extra context from a disembodied mysterious voice recounting how the original Klein was driven to kill himself, how he then mysteriously “survived” and then was “killed” again by Ince, and that’s the end of things. Except, no it’s not, as the current Klein, or whoever he calls himself next, decides to focus on both becoming stronger and finding the enemies that tried to end him by moving to a new location, though not without visiting Klein’s sister one last time dressed as a clown. He then moves onto Backlund, taking up the name of “Sherlock Moriarty”, likely not a coincidence as two characters who seemingly died only to reappear again, and whatever he does next we’ll just have to wait and see if they make a second season to find out. Going by the descriptions in the series’ fan wiki, it’s going to get even more insane than it already has. In the meantime, let’s look back at this one as best we can and try to find some sort of lesson from all of this.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
