After a tumultuous Season 7, Rick and Morty has made a triumphant return with its Season 8 debut on HBO Max, securing the number one spot globally on the streaming platform. The show’s success has even surpassed James Gunn’s own series, a detail ironically highlighted by the fact that Gunn himself had a cameo in a key episode.
A standout episode, “Ricker Than Fiction,” is noted for its clever cameos, including appearances by both James Gunn and Zack Snyder. This episode’s success helped propel Rick and Morty past Gunn’s Peacemaker Season 2 in the U.S. charts. The show’s popularity isn’t limited to the U.S., with strong viewership in countries like Australia, Belize, Poland, and Slovakia.
While some fans were initially frustrated by the delay between the TV finale and its streaming availability, the wait ultimately made the binge-watching experience all the more satisfying.
There's got to be some kind of twist that's going to happen with this. I don't know if they're setting up an April Fool's joke now or what's going on, but it seems too strange that they'd suddenly reverse on doing a fourth and fifth season after the show was already renewed and they were even just talking about working on those seasons like a couple months ago or something. Or maybe the two episodes yet to release will secretly somehow each be like a "season" in themselves?
