English Dub Review: My Dress-Up Darling “The Only Way I Can Think of to Express That Gratitude Is with Money”

Overview:

Marin and Wakana go to a cosplay event. Marin meets up with Amane and Suzuka, and Wakana meets up with Akira.

Our Take:

When I say we’re back, I mean when it comes to the animation. This episode was of the same quality that we were getting at the beginning of the season, and I’m glad we’re back. Honestly, my only issue with the episode was that I felt like I had missed something previously. We’ve met Amane previously, so I get why Marin was meeting up with him, but I don’t recall Suzuka or Akira. Two segments in the episode taught us things about cosplay that I thought were cool.

Gojo had sent Akira a giant text message, and they planned to meet up at this event. Akira thought Gojo was a girl, and Gojo thought Akira was a boy. So when the opposite ended up being true, they were a bit surprised with each other. It turns out that Akira knows Suzuka, and they all went to an after-party. For whatever reason, it seems like Akira and perhaps the other girls have some issue with Marin, but they agreed to cosplay with her. I hope the tension is something superficial like Marin being a gyaru bugs them or something, because she’s a sweetheart and doesn’t deserve to be treated poorly.
