OUR TAKE
Okay, I might be exaggerating a bit by calling this story confusing. When you strip away all of the incredibly dense lore and self-referential navel gazing, the events that are happening in the story are actually quite simple to explain. Klein is still working to get his consciousness back to his own world, but he’s also cracked some grand power that he thinks tapping into will help him get home. But he also is still keeping up appearances as both Klein, the guy whose body he hijacked, and as The Fool, the mysterious leader of the three person team he formed when he first got here through psychic link with two other individuals, going by Justice and The Hanged Man. And…oh, actually when I write it all out like that, it really is pretty complicated, huh? And that’s without bringing in the opening narration that talks about there being twenty two paths that begin with sequence nine, or the way that knowledge of being a Beyonder is apparently gained by drinking potions of increasingly lengthy names and contents, but I guess that at the end of the day, all you need to really know is that Klein is really cool and smart, everyone is coming to either love or fear him, and Justice is actually a rich heiress who gave her dog sentience because it drank one of her Beyonder potions and now it can talk.
We’re also getting an increasingly number of bad Beyonder factions, with this week showing us a group that, according to the Death Note style eye-catch card that dumps seemingly relevant lore, believes that “the creator left a core existence that is the True Creator” and all of them have some upside down giant with one red eye inside of their brains. Is this a foreboding sign of this entity gaining influence in this realm that will force Klein to turn himself into his own supernatural force to combat it? Or will this Hanged Giant also be lost in the shuffle as we dig into even weirder bits and pieces of trivia about this place that is giving me close to an aneurysm if I try to comprehend it too long? And you know the worst part? We’re not even through a full third of all of this nonsense, so there’s plenty more room for it to become even more difficult to wrap your brains around! Honestly, literally wrapping my brain around something sounds like a more accomplish-able task than trying to explain this show. I could even learn the intricate techniques of self brain surgery and it would not even meet this story’s toe in terms of convoluted-ness. It’s just that weird. But explain it I must, so see you next week.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
