English Dub Review: Kaiju No. 8 “The Man Called Isao Shinomiya”

Overview:

Kaiju No. 9 reveals his true plan.

Our Take(Spoilers):

I had a feeling that the kaiju series of weapons was a little more important than just being an ace in the hole for humans. No. 9’s plans for the kaiju weapons were both interesting and disappointing all at the same time. He said he was bringing No. 2 back to life, and I was excited to see what one of the strongest kaiju looked like. Turns out he was fusing with No. 2 AND Isao, which is bad news for everyone involved. I felt bad for Kikoru, who lost her mother already and now lost her father, but the bright side is that maybe her father can be brought back.

The animation for the fight between Isao and No. 9 was amazing. It was exactly what I expected after how good the first season was. We haven’t gotten to see Kafka use his kaiju powers in a lot of the awesome ways he was using them in the first season yet, but I’m hoping that comes soon. It’s frustrating that he didn’t in this episode because they were worried about Isao, and if I remember right, Kafka has jet feet or something, so I don’t know why it took him so long to show up. I hope Kafka can console Kikoru at least.
