English Dub Review: Dr Stone – Science Future “Medusa Mechanism”
OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)
Senku’s team re-invents the Fax Machine to send a message to the group still with Xeno’s team, where they depetrify a watchmaker to try and pick apart the Medusa device.
OUR TAKE
Yes, Stanley is still chasing after them, but there’s nothing really to update on that this week other than he got the plane working again. It’s pretty clear that this chase is just to add more tension artificially since them just going to the source of the Petrification wouldn’t have as much weight if they were going with no deadline or consequence. But at the very least it looks like they’re getting closer and are still communicating with those of the Kingdom of Science that were left behind at Xeno’s base, letting them know they need to find out how the Medusa, the petrification device they were able to take off that evil village leader guy last season, works. I suppose if they’re going to go to the exact source of where the world wide petrification occurred, finding out how these mini ones function now would be the most appropriate timing. And in order to do that, we are introducing…EVEN MORE CHARACTERS. Keep in mind that we are nearly halfway through the FINAL SEASON, but whatever, here’s new guy Joel, whose main characteristics are that he’s a watchmaking apprentice of some kind, is shy around women, and belligerent around men. I’m sure he will become an instant fan favorite for the few moments of screen time he gets in the near future.
Still, he does give us a deeper dive into the function of the Medusa than we have before. We already knew that it operated via voice command by giving it a time frame and range for effectiveness, but now we know it does actually have a distinct power source: a tiny diamond in the center that gets blackened once used up. That’s not a lot and it’s still unclear what its power comes from or if it can be recharged, but that’s still more than we knew several episodes ago when it was being used as a much more prominent weapon. But we’re still waiting for Senku’s group to make it to the Amazon, and who knows how much longer that’s going to take. Either way, I’m still pretty sufficiently entertained by what they’re doing along the way to get there, so I suppose it’s all a wash in that regard. Still, we’re a third of the way through this section of this season, so maybe let’s pick up the pace a bit? Please? If you don’t mind?
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
