English Dub Review: Teogonia “The Great God Kanae”

Overview:

The macaques implore Kai, the great god Kanae, to save them from the evil Diabo.

Our Take:

There are a few things that confuse me about this episode. I understand that Kai doesn’t want many people to know he’s a guardian bearer, or the great god Kanae. But still, unless he’s worried that Elsa is going to die and he won’t be able to save her, I don’t understand why he’s making the people of the village believe that she’s dead. That’s how I took it at least, and it rubbed me the wrong way. At this point, I don’t understand why he’s keeping it a secret. Unless I’m missing something, the people of the village worship the god who he is supposed to be the reincarnated version of.

It is interesting to learn that there is an “evil” god whose name is remarkably close to Diablo, which is another term for the devil here on Earth. This show hasn’t had a whole lot of direction to it, but with an evil god cropping up, I’m hopeful that we get a cool showdown between Kai and whoever this god has chosen as their vessel, if there is one. But for the sake of all that is good, don’t tell people Elsa is dead!
