English Dub Review: Once Upon a Witch’s Death “The Bells of Blessings Ring With the Sound of the Waves (Part Two)”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
Meg and Jack experience a breakthrough in their research, and a massive disaster threatens the entire island.

Our Take:
The second part of the season’s two-parter has Meg and Jack continuing their research in search of a cure for magical contamination.  Fortunately, the research didn’t last long, as Meg mentioned that through her efforts to protect her home, her magic had become strong enough to help Serena and save Lapis.  Therefore, it unlocks a part of the magicians’ history, in which they used their emotions to power their magic, though nowadays they rely on spells to create modern magic.  This discovery helped them cure the infected boy named Sierra, but it also resulted in him growing cat ears.  Initially, this seemed like a pretty low-bar way of concluding Meg’s epic Aquamarine trip, but that’s when the second half comes in.
The episode’s second half has Meg putting her scientific hypothesis to the test when a magical disaster creates another tsunami heading towards the city.  Additionally, it further emphasized Meg’s determination to save everyone despite the other witches believing they can only save a few.  This is another occasion when Meg is often shown as more than just a comical, naive witch-in-training.  She has truly grown in her development throughout the season amid her quest to collect tears of joy, particularly her determination to become strong enough to help everyone in need.  Of course, she was able to do so with a smile on her face, even in the face of calamity.  While it may not hit all the emotional beats in this episode, it’s still a suitable conclusion to the season’s two-part special, showcasing what Meg has been learning on her journey since the beginning.  However, that doesn’t mean it’s also the end of the season, as we have one more problem to solve before we close the book on Meg’s first chapter.
