English Dub Review: City the Animation Episode 4

OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)

You ever go to a local place a lot and then realize it shut down?

OUR TAKE

We’re back to more City the Animation where all the skits are connected but they’re not technically a plot, kinda like a big plate of cooked spaghetti. So, let’s see how much I can ramble about here to get to the minimum word count of four hundred, shall we? This week built a bit on some existing plots, like a boy following around that sleepy girl Riko (Wako’s sister) and thinking she likes him because she smiles warmly at him, but while it seems like the thing she likes the most is sleep, who hasn’t been in a situation where they think someone they have a crush on likes them back? I’m still getting a lot of the names down and to be fair, there’s a LOT of characters to keep track of, but that almost seems like it’s not the point of the show. The point more seems to just enjoy the skits. Maybe connecting these characters might add to getting the jokes better, but so far that seems like more work than actually boosting the jokes. The jokes are good though, so it’s all gravy to me, and there’s still like two thirds of the show left, so there’s plenty of time to learn…something? I assume?

My favorite segments of this episode mainly involve…I think his name is Tsurubashi? He’s the only one with a handlebar mustache, so that at least that’s a distinguishing feature. He gets two segments here, one where he pretends to be a future version of his son and goes through a bunch of answers that only he would know as his parent (which made me guess right away that this it wasn’t his son’s actual future self, although we can’t exactly rule out time travel in this crazy show), as well as a segment where he goes to a local diner and can’t read the menu, so he just goes for the special and tries to make it his regular order, hoping to culminate in him being able to say to the chef that he’d “like the usual, boss”. Problem is that he hates it and, despite going there for weeks, he’s the only customer, so one day he comes by and finds out the place has been closed. Probably because the menu was illegible and the food was bad! Anyway, those ones were pretty funny and next week will probably have some funny ones too.

Error happened.
