English Dub Review: A Couple of Cuckoos “Onii Confessed to You, Didn’t He?”

C’mon Crunchyroll

Overview:

Hiro is kidnapped, and Nagi immediately sets out to save her.

Our Take:

I was going to mention this in my Rent-a-Girlfriend review, but Crunchyroll needs to get better about its subtitles. I don’t know why they can’t translate text messages and signs, because there are times I feel like I’m missing out on key information. If they’re in such a rush that they can’t translate on-screen text then maybe wait a bit or something?

Also, like Rent-a-Girlfriend, I think we can tell who Nagi is going to end up with. He has feelings for Hiro, but I think we all know he’s going to end up with Erika. This is almost an exact retelling of Nisekoi. There has been nothing original here except for maybe the amount of girls being into him and one of them being his (adopted) sister.

Getting some backstory on Nagi and Hiro was interesting, but it didn’t change anything. He’s in love with her, but she also has a fiancé. My biggest issue with these shows is the fact that most of the “action” in any given season wouldn’t exist if these people sat down and had an honest conversation. I enjoy this more than Rent-a-Girlfriend but if you’ve read my reviews of that you’ll know that’s not exactly high praise.
