OUR TAKE

And just like that, one arc ends and another begins! Yeah, I really expected these two arcs to be seperate and given their own episodes since they were so short and different from each other, but here we are. Still, we got a LOT of new information and revelations about the long standing mysteries of the series, including Human Combustion, Dopplegangers, Pillars, and the origins of the Great Cataclysm, most of it coming from the mouth of Sumire, who is confirmed to be the Seventh Pillar. And not just that, but also likely a Pillar from the Great Cataclysm, which apparently means she’s gotten to keep her number despite being around longer than the other Pillars…somehow, and shared that role with the Woman in Black from last season, who makes a sudden appearance to use the last of her strength to distract Sumire while Hibana’s group gets away. As for what they found out, it turns out that the Dopplegangers that Hibana was researching are in fact the cause of the combustion, as their emergence into the human world from Adolla causes their corresponding human to burst into flames. Seems the Great Cataclysm of old was a failed attempt with use of the original Pillars to fully bring Adolla to this world, and the combustion has been a way for stray Infernals to come in ever since, though they’re usually beaten back pretty quickly.

As for Sumire herself, despite coming from basically a background role, she’s now only up to a supporting character, even as one of the eight Pillars, but she still makes a strong impression, especially with a pretty clever power of using shivering to cause earthquakes. She’ll probably still be getting a fight down the line where she can show her stuff though, so I’ll look forward to that. But now the good guys have just about as much info as they’re going to get before shit hits the fan, which does not include the identity of the final Pillar. Which it seems to be pretty clear is Iris, the only other survivor of the fire besides Hibana, and Adolla Insects don’t seem to affect Pillars as seen when Nataku got one from Rekka. Oh yeah, wasn’t there a whole other arc about Arthur that started in the second half of this episode? Well, the meat of that story is really gonna be covered next week anyway, and all we’re getting into this week is just how Arthur’s LARPing as a knight is being enabled by Vulcan. We’ll actually get more into Arthur as a character for the first time in a long time (and possibly the last time), so I’ll leave that for then when we can properly cover it. Still, kinda weird that the Empire hasn’t sent other Companies into Asakusa to capture Company 8, isn’t it? Again, could just be overconfidence, but some acknowledgement would be nice.

Error happened.
