English Dub Season Review: Loner Life in Another World Season One
Overview:
High school student Haruka has always been a content loner. One day, he and his class are abruptly transported to another world and given skill points to use when choosing from an assortment of abilities and magical powers. Unfortunately, Haruka arrives last, and he can only use his points on the seemingly impractical abilities the others had no interest in. Although he is on his own again and must adjust to his new life by himself, he much prefers it that way.
Our Take:
For being a show about a loner getting along in another world, he barely spends anytime alone. Much to his chagrin, Haruka would love to be alone but for whatever reason people love being around him. In most shows like this, the protagonist isn’t necessarily a loner by choice but because they’re so “weird”. Haruka really likes being alone and for whatever reason, people don’t like to let him be.
This is one of those shows that suffers from getting good at the very end. None of the characters really captured my attention until we meet Angelica around episode eight or nine. By that point we’re so close to the end of the season it’s a little too late. I’d be interested in a second season but that doesn’t seem to be in the cards as of now.
One of the main characters that gets in Haruka’s way of living the loner life is the Class Rep. She’s voiced by Monica Rial, who hasn’t done too many Sentai anime lately to the best of my knowledge. It was nice getting to hear her in a production I wouldn’t have expected her to be in.
Ultimately, Loner Life in Another World is your typical isekai that follows every trope. The only one it didn’t hit on was the harem aspect but by the end of the season it seems like Haruka has the attention of at least two of the female cast. The animation wasn’t anything special and the characters didn’t do much to stand out. You can probably avoid this show for now, maybe if a second season comes out I will change my tune.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
