Review: Rick and Morty: RickleMania #3

Overview

While young, frail, pathetic Morty trains with his mom and Space Beth, Rick and Summer continue to take the Intergalactic Wrestling Federation by storm—but things are not as tight as they seem with the high-octane duo. As Summer’s in-rinng antics boost her popularity, bitter resentment and jealousy begins to brew inside Rick. Consumed by wrestling, popularity, and all the merchandise that comes with it, Rick starts his own bad boy, pickle-based wrestling faction and begins turning on his own friends and family! Oh no!

Our Take

It’s Wrestlemania week AND we’re a month away from the new season of Rick and Morty. Want a smattering of both? You’ve got it! Oni Press and Marc Ellerby bring the penultimate issue of the “Ricklemania” event series to help make sure you get your balance of Rick and Morty AND pro-wrestling.

Not familiar with pro-wrestling lingo? Too bad, because you’re going to need it to understand some of key plot points of this month’s issue as Rick is left behind on a planet trying to save his son-in-law from certain death with a rag tag team of seldom seen cameos as his tag partners. The art direction from Marc is actually very well-done with full spreads laden with stellar character designs that really pop off of the page.

As mentioned we get a number of cameos that you will probably recognize right away mixed in with those that you’ll have to really think hard about if you haven’t been reading the ongoing Rick and Morty event series that Oni has been dropping the last couple of years. Regardless, the issue is a fun one and I’m looking forward to seeing what happens in next month’s finale.

Error happened.
