Plymptoons Posts Oscar-Nominated Guard Dog On YouTube
Plymptoons, the animation studio founded by legendary studio Bill Plympton, has posted the legendary Guard Dog short on YouTube.
One of Bill Plympton’s most recognizable shorts and characters, Guard Dog, was inspired by a simple walk in the park. This endearing icon has stolen the hearts of many all around the world, leading to a tidal wave of recognition including an Oscar nom for Best Animated short.
It screened before “Hair High” – Another whacky, comedic, hand-drawn feature by Bill, and then went on tour in The Animation Show. Roughly ten years later, the short was preserved by the Academy Film Archive in 2015. Truly, a history-making project for Mr. Plympton, Guard Dog has subsequently led to the production of a few puppies.

There's got to be some kind of twist that's going to happen with this. I don't know if they're setting up an April Fool's joke now or what's going on, but it seems too strange that they'd suddenly reverse on doing a fourth and fifth season after the show was already renewed and they were even just talking about working on those seasons like a couple months ago or something. Or maybe the two episodes yet to release will secretly somehow each be like a "season" in themselves?
