English Dub Review: How I Attended an All-Guy’s Mixer “That Time I Went to the Beach and…”

Overview:

At Kohaku’s request, her friends help her out at a beach house. Meanwhile, Suo wants to have some fun in the sun and takes Tokiwa along with her.

Our Take:

I don’t understand why Kohaku and the other girls would go to work at her cousin’s beach house dressed in their guy makeup. With most of the other instances of them doing that, I could hand-wave it away as making some sort of sense. But working at your family’s restaurant, where I would assume none of the customers know you, why would you do that?

When it comes to using the cross-dressing aspect, it’s a way to bring in yaoi fans without the show becoming fully yaoi. But the way Hagi is reacting to it all is mildly annoying, like come on man, it’s not cheating and you’re not gay because you imagine her cross-dressing. That’s the only way he’s seen her for the most part as of now, so it makes sense that when he thinks of her, that’s how she shows up in his mind. Plus, he says the dumbest stuff out loud. Why would he say anything about cheating out loud to her? The next episode is the last one, and I’m hoping and praying something happens.
