Overview
Information gets out that Kanda, an anti-magic advocate and Diet member, will visit First High School with the media to observe the school’s curriculum, claiming that he has heard disturbing rumors about it. He plans to create an uproar with the media and assert that the school is brainwashing students into the military – if he finds anything suspicious of that nature. To stop this ploy, Tatsuya suggests an experiment showing the students creating a Sustained Gravity Control-Type Magic Thermonuclear Fusion Reactor = Stellar Furnace. The students plan on demonstrating that the magic education they receive at the school can solve energy problems, and that magic can contribute to the peace of humankind depending on the type of magic they use.
Our Take
In a tense subplot, Congressman Kanda, a humanist anti-magician member, visits the magic school to scrutinize its military ties. The visit escalated at first until Tatsuya had a trick up his sleeve that helped his class earn praise from Tsuzura Kazuo, effectively countering any possible accusations. A lot of this is a bit of a slow-burn as I’m not sure if it’ll lead to an action scene in later storylines, but so far much of it is spent on debunking and preserving the school’s reputation.
Later on, Minami prepares for Tatsuya’s birthday while Miyuki keeps him occupied. Tatsuya received an expensive pocket watch with the Kitayama emblem from Honoka and later celebrated with Miyuki, who gave him a locket pendant with her picture which gave off sentimental vibes, even if their dynamic is a bit irksome…
Overall, the episode balanced personal moments with political drama effectively. The quality of worldbuilding and technical magical analysis remained high, although concerns about the character Shippou Takuma persist. Despite some unorthodox elements like the sibling dynamic, I believe this was the first time I’ve ever seen an adult teacher or administrator at this school. You’d think the kids were teaching themselves how much focus is on the other students themselves when it isn’t the two siblings. Hopefully, this will lead to a major payoff later on.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
