English Dub Review: Delicious in Dungeon “Egg/Golden Land”

Overview (Spoilers Below):

With the dungeon’s fate hanging in the balance, Kabru negotiates with the elves. Meanwhile, a ghost drags Laios and crew into the cursed Golden Country.

Our Take:

This week’s episode takes a small break from dungeon exploration to focus solely on Kabru and Shuro in the surface world. After returning to the surface following their little “chimera” incident, Kabru and Shuro discovered that the Elves from the West had arrived to discuss the Island Lord about the dungeon. These elves specialize in investigating and taming a dungeon to avoid any casualties in the surface world. The duo then went to the elves to discuss Falin running loose in the dungeon, leading Kabru to convince them to seal the dungeon instead to prevent her from getting loose. Amid the conversation, we see more of Kabru’s determination to become an adventurer following his mother’s demise by a dungeon monster, further establishing Kabru’s character arc.

The remaining episode then sees Laios and crew taking an unexpected trip thanks to the ghostly skeleton that previously saved them from the Mad Mage. They wind up in a tranquil land known as the Golden Country, which consists of a barrier that makes the monsters less aggressive, including Izutsumi. Although the village and its residents are quite peaceful, it’s also not without their secrets. Do you remember the phrase “All that glitters is not gold”? Well, that should apply to the Golden Country, whose tranquility comes with the curse of immortality courtesy of the Mad Mage. In addition to their lack of taste buds, the villagers cannot leave the land, or they’ll turn into ghosts, the same spirits the crew made sorbet out of many episodes ago.

The episode then takes a much more interesting turn that’ll play a significant role in the final few episodes. It’s revealed by Delgo’s granddaughter that Delgo was to blame for introducing the Mad Mage to black magic and that a chosen warrior with the Winged Lion can defeat the dreadful villain. Of course, the winged lion happens to be Kensuke. However, the chosen warrior holding it happens to be the monster-loving Laios, as the villagers request him to break the curse. He now has a lot of responsibility on his shoulders, which helps this episode pick up the plot’s pace a little, but will he have enough confidence to defeat the Mad Mage?
