English Dub Review: Laid Back Camp “Hatanagi Attack! Death Road from Hell”

Overview

Rin and Ayano bike their way up treacherous mountain roads and cross terrifying swinging bridges to make it to the campsite. While she waits for them, Nadeshiko takes in the sights and manages to find a scare of her own…

Our Take

This time around the girls’ outdoor adventures continue with Nadeshiko’s solo journey offering moments of humor and excitement. From her train ride interactions to navigating a spooky tunnel, her escapades add depth to the episode. Meanwhile, Rin and Ayano embark on their own motorcycle tour, encountering challenges like treacherous paths and daunting suspension bridges.

Despite some slower moments, the episode culminates in Rin and Ayano’s arrival at Lake Hatanagi, where they face the daunting Ootobashi bridge. Their bond is tested as they navigate through the rugged terrain, highlighting the strength of their friendship. Nadeshiko’s quieter adventure contrasts with their journey, showcasing a comical yet equally scary experience but on a different level.

Overall, this episode captured the essence of outdoor exploration and friendship, with each character’s journey contributing to the narrative. Despite the challenges our lead girls face, their shared love for camping and adventure shines through, promising more heartwarming and sometimes funny moments. Especially the scary cave later in the episode, yet the biggest highlight was the shaking bridge scene that I’m sure is going to stick with me for a while for how shocking it is for an anime that’s pretty grounded in reality.
