English Dub Review: My Hero Academia “Toshinori Yagi: Embers”

Overview:

All Might’s last fight against All For One set off a series of events leading to his retirement as a hero, but he continues to fight, even as the embers of One For All within him die out.

Our Take:

I’ve mentioned multiple times that I hate recaps, and I still do. They feel lazy to me and it’s like you’re hiding your loading screen for the gamers out there. What I mean is that it’s similar to filler episodes in that it buys time for the source material to get a little further along. One way it’s not similar is that I think it gives the animators a break other than a scene here or there. I’m all for that but then just give them a break, we don’t need episodes like this especially because they can’t be getting a full break since they sprinkle in a new scene here and there.

The one cool thing about these episodes so far is that since we’re getting close to the end of the series they are playing to our feelings of nostalgia. For the last two episodes they’ve been recycling some of the old OPs and EDs which has been about the most enjoyable part. Once again, there’s no need to watch these. If you’re new to the series just start from the beginning, if you’re not then you don’t need it.
