English Dub Review: The Apothecary Diaries “Lead”

Overview:

A shack, a chest of drawers, and a fishbowl are all that a talented metalworker leaves to his three sons upon his death. Maomao is assigned to investigate how these strange inheritances all fit together.

Our Take:

Leave it to a father to find a way to bring his son’s closer even after he’s passed away. One thing I have come to appreciate about this show is that not everything has to be a big arc. When it comes to anime I know that is how we typically categorize parts of the show. But I kind of like these little “one-shots” we get. My only problem with them is that sometimes the characters introduced are really captivating and I would like to get more of them. I think back to the third episode of the series and the mark it made for me when it comes to this series.

Maomao is an interesting character because she constantly acts outside of how she “should” given her station and gender. But I believe we love characters like this because they go against the mold. I’m no science expert but my only issue with this episode was that I don’t think a few seconds of concentrated sunlight from a fishbowl would be enough heat to melt some metal, but I could be wrong.
