English Dub Review: The Dangers in my Heart “Karte 11: We’re a Bit Alike”

Overview

Distance separates Kyotaro and Anna, but their thoughts are of each other. However, their budding relationship faces a threat: Haruya still has his eyes set on Anna.

Our Take

In the days leading up to New Year’s Eve, Kyotaro and his family embark on a trip to visit his grandmother. While capturing a snowy scene for Anna in a photo, Kyotaro accidentally falls, resulting in a broken arm and an early return home. During a secret video call to Anna, Kyotaro is caught by his sister Kana, who surprisingly refrains from teasing him. Anna later calls just to wish him goodnight, and Kana expresses an interest in meeting Anna. As Kyotaro encounters Anna during a walk with her dog, he contemplates giving her a souvenir dog keychain but decides otherwise. While playing with the dog, Anna takes Kyotaro’s hand and confesses her desire to gift him her muffler. In return, Kyotaro surprises her with the dog keychain, witnessing her joy.

Later on, Anna plans to meet Kyotaro during New Year’s shrine visits. On New Year’s night, Kyotaro runs into various classmates, including Anna’s friends Moeko and Haruya. Haruya pressures Kyotaro for Anna’s Line contact, but Kyotaro, to protect Anna’s privacy, refuses. Impressed by his actions, Moeko coaxes Kyotaro into admitting his love for Anna, emphasizing that it has been evident for some time. Though embarrassed, Kyotaro realizes his feelings. On New Year’s Eve, Kyotaro decides to call Anna at midnight in the hopes of telling her how he feels…

Overall, this episode maintained its high quality, and exceled in places in terms of narrative. The pacing remained effective and didn’t overstay it’s welcome within a half-hour. But with just one more episode remaining, the romantic proceedings between our two leads could potentially culminate into something bigger.
