English Dub Review: Masamune-kun’s Revenge R “Dead or love?”

What is the ultimate fate that awaits Masamune, Aki, and Yoshino?

Our Take:

I don’t feel like this was a bad finale but I have to admit to a bit of disappointment with how this ended. For an anime that was pretty different from your typical rom-com, it sure ended like every other run-of-the-mill romance anime. We got a kiss between Aki and Masamune, credits, then they danced at the school festival that was it. That is my biggest frustration with any romance anime we get all the build-up but then nothing after they become a couple. From what I recall of the manga there was a bit of time after Masamune and Aki got back together we got to see.

The best way to describe this episode is “jarring”. It felt rushed but I still overall love the series. The last episode ended with Yoshino kissing Masamune and telling him she loved him and we were led to believe they were dating at the beginning of this episode. But I suppose that’s where the “revenge” part comes in because Yoshino and Masamune played a prank on Aki making her think they were dating. Crunchyroll also contributed to this episode being frustrating because once again a lot of onscreen Japanese text wasn’t translated so I didn’t know what was happening at times. Still a great series and I’m looking forward to the season review but this was disappointing.
