English Dub Review: Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War “The Last 9 Days”
Overview:
Ichigo prepares to return to the Seireitei but is stopped by the menacing Hyosube; Yhwach gathers the Stern Ritter to announce that he is naming Uryu, the last surviving Quincy in this world, as his successor.
Our Take:
The beginning of this episode had to be one of the weirdest I’ve seen in an anime in a long time and that’s saying something. It was basically the process of making a baby I was even thinking “Is that sperm?” and the answer was yes, yes it was. But odd openings aside, I’m just excited that Bleach is back and there wasn’t a ten-year wait this time.
Pieces are being set up and with Uryu being named Yhwach’s successor there is going to be fighting between friends in the future. I’m still holding out hope that this is just some ploy by Uryu to defeat the Quincy from the inside but I don’t think that will be the case.
The animation has been fantastic thus far and the voice acting has been great even if I am a little disappointed by all the recasts but when it’s been ten years that is bound to happen. In this episode, I am pretty sure I heard Yuri Lowenthal so I’m really excited that he’s back at least.
There's got to be some kind of twist that's going to happen with this. I don't know if they're setting up an April Fool's joke now or what's going on, but it seems too strange that they'd suddenly reverse on doing a fourth and fifth season after the show was already renewed and they were even just talking about working on those seasons like a couple months ago or something. Or maybe the two episodes yet to release will secretly somehow each be like a "season" in themselves?
