English Dub Review: Sweet Reincarnation “A Spicy Negotiation and Sweet Baked Treats”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
To recover their financial losses suffered from the bandit attack, Pastry and his father seek compensation from Count Retes. Pastry has a magical trick up his sleeve, too…

Our Take:
Casserole’s homelands are safe from the vicious bandits. However, they aren’t safe from the financial losses received from the destruction the bandits left behind. Not to mention that the bandit leader escaped capture due to Marc’s ego, resulting in them losing their chance to claim the reward. Fortunately, that hasn’t stopped Pastry from figuring out the solutions to their financial problems, with the first relating to matchmaking.
With Marc and Lumi engaged and his sister Josephine almost old enough to marry, Pastry suggested an idea relating to arranged marriages for children. Nobles usually travel across the land to meet their children’s potential spouses, including Casserole, who can use teleportation magic to travel to different lands swiftly. However, since the travels come with a hefty price and are filled with danger, Pastry and Casserole decided to use “matchmaking photos” to be sent back and forth by messengers. This allowed Pastry to use Replication magic to replicate people’s images onto objects like wood and a blanket.
Pastry and Casserole also visited the local capital of Retes to negotiate the payment terms with Countess Brioche. The previous episode stated that Brioche was responsible for punishing the bandits who reside in Retes. Of course, we all know how that turned out. Well, it turns out that this mistake has come and bitten her in the butt, as Pastry mentioned this failure straight to her face. He even brought the bandit’s sword that holds Brioche’s family crest as proof of her failed duty. As a result, Brioche agrees to pay them 150 gold coins to fix the damages.
This episode further showcases Pastry using his knowledge to help people with troubling situations, not just his replication magic. His knowledge of political and financial standards helped Pastry exceed the expectations of those judging him by his age, especially Brioche. But, of course, he still has his sweet-related intelligence at his disposal, which he uses to critique Brioche’s sweet biscuits, much to Casserole’s annoyance. It’s enough to make Pastry stand out a bit from the other isekai characters who use only overpowered magic to fix the problems. Hopefully, this direction will continue in later episodes, with Pastry using his smarts and magic to rebuild his land and accomplish his sweet dream.
