English Dub Review: Urusei Yatsura “A Chest Full of Longing!! / Wish Upon A Star”

Overview:

Ryunosuke teams up with three delinquents to help Shinobu ward off an unwanted suitor. Later, Ataru’s family must be careful about what they wish for.

Our Take:

Ryunosuke just wants the simple things in life. She wants to be seen as a girl and to feel like a girl as well. So when it seems like she might be able to make some money to afford her first bra she jumps at the chance even if it means leaning back into people treating her like a boy. You might have read that previous sentence and thought “What is this show?” and let me tell you I’m right there with you.

Urusei Yatsura is such a frustrating show that at this point I think just isn’t for me. Maybe it is for you? The comedy for me just doesn’t land and the romance is nonexistent and doesn’t land for me. Ataru is such an annoying character that I can’t root for him at all. No matter which girl you think is the best girl you shouldn’t wish that any of them would be with him.
