English Dub Review: Bofuri: I Don’t Want to Get Hurt, So I’ll Max Out My Defense “Maxing Defense and New Parties”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
Maple Tree, Order of the Holy Sword, and Flame Emperors have all come together in Maple Tree’s base. Assorted members from all three guilds formed parties to head out and fight monsters so they could earn more medals during the second night of the event.

Our Take:
It’s obvious that Crunchyroll still sucks at communicating with its viewers regarding its episode delays. It would’ve been nice if they notified us that the English dub of the second-to-last episode of Bofuri would be delayed to thenext week. That way, I didn’t have to waste my entire day waiting for it to be released. It’s still a troubling issue that has yet to be improved, no matter how many times we complain about it.
Regardless, the show’s second season and the game’s eighth event are drawing to a close. This means that the event will pull off all the stops to make its monsters even more challenging for the players to fight, including the Maple Tree guild. Luckily, Maple and the gang got the other guilds, Order of the Holy Sword and Flame Emperor, by their side. But will they be enough to survive another monster invasion? Well, with Maple along, the answer is pretty straightforward.
The eighth event continues with the three main guilds splitting into different teams. Meanwhile, the minor party members from all three guilds stay behind to protect the base. Although, they’re not exactly strong enough to handle the enemies alone, resulting in them making an unsurprisingly comical retreat.
With the different guild members working side by side, the episode continues to showcase the different dynamics in their chemistries, whether they’re communicating or fighting. One of the teams is Maple’s group consisting of herself, Sally, Mii, and Frederica. That team encounters a dungeon housing an armor-piercing alien-like monster. Fortunately, Maple’s Atrocity skill managed to help the group defeat it. However, this monster isn’t the only thing that’ll give players a hard time. In fact, more than one armor-piercing creature appears all over the map on the event’s third and final day.
“Maxing Defense and New Parties” is another episode involving the different teams fighting the monsters in specific locations, which could be repetitive. However, with the characters’ goal being medal-collecting and its entertaining action, the episode managed to progress the season’s final arc without over-relying on its “filler” trope. But, of course, their battles were just the appetizers, as next week’s finale will see Maple and the crew putting their skills to the test for the event’s main course.
