English Dub Review: Handyman Saitou in Another World “What Saitou Can Do”
Overview
A demon king has appeared in a neighboring kingdom and the king has to figure out how to deal with it. Meanwhile, Saitou makes a mistake that sets off a trap that sends him to one of the lower levels of the dungeon.
Our Take
Predictably the titular Saitou never ceases to amaze those within his circle as he shows how handy he makes a good cook and steals the heroine of this show’s heart. Even after the first episode, I thought they were just introducing the characters of the handyman group by jumping from one scene to another.
But after watching two random characters (A female elf warrior and her healer) I hilariously wasn’t expecting some LGBTQ undertones, but I guess it’s the closest thing to fanservice next to Raelza losing her Armor to a slime creature that ends up being a “checkov’s gun” of sorts for a later storyline. I also never expected the fairy character “Lafa” to have that deep lore over her race, especially regarding why money matters so much to her.
Overall, while this episode was quite wholesome so far with the interactions between the main four, It still has the same problems that hurt the first episode where the story structure just jumps between shorts without any real thread with some scenes requiring subtitles due to parts of the story not being translated to English where it matters. At the very least, We got to see the opening as well as the ending, which stood out more because of its use of dolls during the credits that look like well-made dioramas, and a subtle subplot involving Raezla having a crush on Saitou which is thankfully downplayed in favor of us getting to know the other characters in this universe…

There's got to be some kind of twist that's going to happen with this. I don't know if they're setting up an April Fool's joke now or what's going on, but it seems too strange that they'd suddenly reverse on doing a fourth and fifth season after the show was already renewed and they were even just talking about working on those seasons like a couple months ago or something. Or maybe the two episodes yet to release will secretly somehow each be like a "season" in themselves?
