English Dub Review: Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun “Capital of the Unreturned”

Overview:

Team Riko explores the sixth layer. In doing so, they discover the dangers it houses and they also find out that they’re not alone.

Our Take:

Riko and her friends have finally reached the sixth layer and they have a look around. They find some interesting food options and dangerous fireballs that release poisonous gas.

Riko starts to miss her friends from the surface, so Nanachi suggests sending them a drawing. They try to do so, but a bird catches the mail balloon before it’s even out of their sight. However, someone takes the drawing and brings it back to the group while they’re sleeping. Not only that, but the same person plucks some hair from Riko and Nanachi. Most importantly, they steal the Prushka stone from Riko.

The team comes across a village that’s only inhabited  by these strange-looking creatures. One of them, Majikaja, can speak their language. Riko asks them about the stone and Majikaja tells Team Riko to follow them.

Now we’re getting started with the real adventure. It’s fascinating to see the group explore the sixth layer and find new creatures.

The visuals in this show never cease to amaze me. I really enjoy the designs of the creatures in the village, especially Majikaja. I don’t exactly know how to describe the design, but they’re a dragon-like creature. The entrance to the village is also visually intriguing. It’s full of dismembered body parts that are just hanging all around, but the walls are covered in bright colors. It’s quite the contrast from the ominous hanging limbs and bones.

Team Riko’s journey through the sixth layer is just getting started and they’ve already run into their first roadblock. I want to learn more about the inhabitants of this village and see what else the sixth layer has in store for Riko and the gang.
