English Dub Review: Lupin III Part VI “The Ghosts of Britain”

Overview

Interested parties converge on Raven’s treasure in the shadows of the London underground as the true identity of Watson’s killer comes to light…

Our Take

As many people saw coming, Watson’s killer ended up being someone within Sherlock’s circle. And the twist was predictably kept hidden until the last moment. Additionally, they all miraculously survived the huge building explosion from the previous episode’s cliffhanger somehow, and Lily still felt the need to ask if Lupin made it out alive like it wasn’t crazy for herself to make it out alive.

I almost second-guessed myself regarding the big twist, but it wasn’t until Lily’s repressed memories finally begin to surface that the traumatic scene from her past and Holmes was quick to put the pieces together. And the killer verbally slipped up badly when the individual revealed a minor detail that only Holmes and Lily would know.

Overall, the reveal of the Raven Syndicate turned out to be almost anti-climactic. But at the very least, this long unraveling mystery is now put to rest. I thought it would be a great clash between Lupin and Holmes, like in the first two episodes, but in the end, they were more friends than allies since both of them were after Raven for completely different reasons. I’m curious what the next episode’s mystery could entail since the England storyline managed not to stretch itself any further and at this point, I have no idea what to expect.
