English Dub Review: Spy x Family “THE GREAT DODGEBALL PLAN”

Overview:

A rumor spreads amongst the first graders at Eden College saying that if they do well in their next PE class, they will get rewarded with Stella Stars. Anya is determined to get a Stella Star, so she trains with Yor. Thus begins the dodgeball match between Cecile Hall and Wald Hall! Anya and her classmates are determined to win, but they are faced with the giant, Bill Watkins.

Our Take:

First thing, I need more Yor and Anya training segments. I love how overpowered they make Yor out to be. I’m not sure which I would like better, some sort of explanation as to why she has this absurd amount of strength or it to just never be mentioned. On one hand, I would love to know the story behind it but how funny would it be if it’s just never talked about. That seems like something this show is more likely to do.

The animation for Yor teaching Anya to throw was great. But they didn’t stop there, almost all of the dodgeball scenes were animated to perfection. You would think everyone’s lives were on the line. Some eagle-eyed fans might have noticed a few references to other anime as well in this episode.

We also need to talk about Bill Watkins. There is no way he is a first-grader, that is a grown-ass man. If there is a professional dodgeball league he will most assuredly be the first pick. I thought Bill was a fun character and hope he makes an appearance later in the show as well. Spy x Family continues to be the best show of the season. Make sure you continue to keep up with this one. I’m already anticipating the second cour in October.
