English Dub Review: Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These “What Was Lost”

Overview:

Hilde has convinced Ernest Mecklinger, who is known in the Empire as the “artist admiral,” to pay a visit to her cousin, Baron Kümmel. Prone to illness and forced to stay in bed, Kümmel is a man with a penchant for great historical figures, and he strongly admires Mecklinger’s brilliant mind and great skills. While Hilde is delighted to see a spark of happiness finally shining in her cousin’s tired eyes, her assignment as chief secretary is about to cause her much greater concerns.

Our Take:

This might have been the first episode where I felt a little lost. I had thought Reinhard’s friend Kircheis was still alive. So either he died offscreen or the times we have seen him alive were flashbacks. Sounds like I need to do a rewatch, which with a series this enjoyable is not bad at all.

The greatest strength of this show is also its greatest weakness. There are so many characters that it is kind of hard to keep track of them and keep the names straight. But the characters are usually so good that it doesn’t seem like a problem. I just have to keep google handy when watching this anime. I am hoping we are closing in on the climax of this arc because the anticipation is killing me.
