English Dub Review: Love After World Domination “I Love You!”

Overview:

Superhero Fudou Aikawa and supervillain Desumi Magahara are in a relationship that they have to keep hidden from everyone else. This episode shows how the two meet and start dating.

Our Take:

Forbidden love between two opposing sides is not a new concept, but it is an idea that always manages to intrigue me. The relationship between Fudou Aikawa and Desumi Magahara seems innocent on the surface. However, Fudou is actually a superhero known as Red Gelato and Desumi is his arch enemy: Reaper Princess. They show their affection for one another when they’re alone, but they have to hide their relationship from both their respective groups and the public eye. After all, what would they think if they saw a hero and a villain dating?

We get a brief look at the evil organization known as Gekko, but we really only get to know about Desumi. The same can be said about Gelato 5, the superhero team, but we see more of them than the villains.

The team of heroes looks like a fun cast of characters. The episode doesn’t delve too deep into any of their stories except for Fudou, but the intrigue is still there. I wonder if Big Gelato will play a big role considering he’s the one who unknowingly gets the relationship between Fudou and Desumi started.

Unsurprisingly, the relationship between the two leads is the highlight of the episode. We see them act like a sweet and wholesome couple at the beginning of the episode. I really enjoyed seeing the origin of their romance. Considering that neither one of them has any piror relationship experience, that makes it easy to root for the couple. Fudou’s kindness and Desumi’s timidity bounce off of each other very well making for funny and satisfying interactions. It’s also funny watching them immediately change their tones whenever someone interrupts them.

All in all, this is an entertaining start to a promising romantic comedy. The couple is immediately likeable and while the premise isn’t completely original, it’s still a fun idea. I can’t wait to learn more about the other heroes and villains. I especially can’t wait to see Fudou and Desumi’s relationship develop. While I have a feeling it might be a slow burn, as long as it remains entertaining, I’m here for it.
