English Dub Review: Love of Kill “Room”

Overview

Chateau wakes up in a motel after being helped out of a pinch by Ryang-Ha. She passes the warning that Hou had given to him for the “traitor.” What was his crime five years ago?

Our Take

This time around we get a little backstory on Ryang-Ha Song being having past ties with the same organization as Hou (The Tattoo-faced dude who almost killed Chateau last episode.) As it turns out, Song wasn’t his favorite person due to some perceived unfairness and a petty & bruised ego. Still, Chateau is unwilling to trust Ryang-Ha even after he saved her emotionless ass.

While it’s understandable for her to have such an attitude of apprehension towards a trollish Hitman whose motivations remain unclear, Chateau is a bit too much of a wet blanket, but I’m sure her personality will be explained more as some of these flashbacks feel like they’ll be driving force of her backstory and how this could all come full circle even if the episode’s proceedings felt like a slow-burn with zero action whatsoever.

Overall, this was a passable episode despite giving off “filler” vibes with Ryang Ha and Chateau’s mildly amusing interactions. We get a modicum of Ryang Ha’s backstory which was nice. However, their relationship at this point still doesn’t make a lot of sense, but that’s probably intentional and will be filled in later. Sometimes I don’t understand if this anime wants to be serious or just wants to be a dark comedy. Those puffed cheek angry faces that are animated don’t suit whatever tone it’s trying to give off if this show wanted to be taken seriously with all the death and story-intrigue it claims to have. but I’m sticking around to find out…
