English Dub Review: The Honor at Magic High School Episodes 1 & 2

Out Take

Much of the first sets up everything we need to know for those of us new to this series, but I can’t help but feel weirded out by the incestuous undertones between the siblings. It feels a bit weird to see suggestive actions from the brother.

As for the 2nd episode “May I Join You?”, The writing is all over the place. The art style has gotten sloppy enough that even I am starting to notice, there are all sorts of inconsistencies in character positions and scene dynamics. None of the characters (aside from Miyuki and to an extent Tatsuya) are given a proper introduction. Whether you like it or not, the relationship-related dialogue between the two siblings is objectively bad, even worse than the exposition or plot-related dialogue.

 It’s easy to assume that the show heavily relies on you watching the previous series to connect the dots. But if they want to keep its audience engaged, all they needed to do beyond the sibling’s focus is to introduce to us the power set of the entire new supporting cast through Honoka’s eyes. But, whatever worked well in episode 1, stumbled a bit in episode 2…
