English Dub Review: Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid S “Extracurricular Activities (Of Course They’re Not Normal)”

Overview

Saikawa visits Miss Kobayashi’s home to play. However, there’s a girl that’s unfamiliar to her (Ilulu)… Even after inviting her to join their games, Ilulu coldly refuses. Then Lucoa happens to stop by and she notices Ilulu’s feelings as she tries to avoid them, so she makes an effort to help the dragon out…

Our Take

This episode had a decent amount of wholesomeness, as Ilulu got to spend some time with Kanna and her friend Riko this episode. I like the fact that Ilulu started getting along with the rest of the children thanks to Lucoa’s help, as she is mentally a child herself and deserves something normal compared to her strict upbringing that felt like a mean-spirited echo-chamber full of Dragons stuck in their old ways.

I never expected to see Lucoa approach the situation as a calm and wise character but for some reason, it fits the scenario quite well and just the short conversation between Lucoa and illulu was so good. Kobayashi in a maid outfit was great, also more backstory about her and how she came to be the maid otaku she is now, love how much of her past they’re showing this season.

Overall, I don’t think I’ve seen a way more realistic and relatable episode in an anime in quite a while. I really appreciated the relatable life questions. Primarily the later proceedings used all of the characters in some fun way. Even if many of their appearances were brief, It showcased everyone within the room and excelled with some very fun character moments delved into some relatable life along with learning to find a hobby as an outlet for your passions.
