English Dub Review: Tonikawa: Over The Moon For You “Sisters”

Overview

Nasa and Tsukasa’s newlywed life has finally begun. As the two of them head to a bathhouse run by a girl who just so happens to have a platonic middle-school history with Nasa named Kaname Arisugawa, Kaname is shocked to see Nasa with a girl and is curious about what happened after learning about the marriage. Meanwhile, Tsukasa heads into a separate bath where she unexpectedly encounters Kaname’s older sister, Aya…

Our Take

This was a lovely but slightly flawed bathhouse episode. Just seeing Nasa and Tsukasa spend time together is cute as can be. Despite still not knowing anything about Tsukasa as a person, they still come across as the perfect married couple, well except for a random bout of miscommunication which ended the episode. Nasa couldn’t quite get the hint but It’s quite understandable given that Nasa doesn’t really know what not to do in a relationship, because anyone will tell you that in a relationship, marriage, or otherwise, it’s an unspoken rule not to call another girl “cute” in front of your spouse unless it’s some unobtainable fictional character or a celebrity crush.

Getting to meet the two sisters was nice, Even if Kaname the younger sister comes across as a bit wacky and boundary-pushing in her antics. Staying in the men’s bath “cleaning” until Nasa got out makes me question the professionalism of her job, and It’s shit like this that keeps me from giving this episode a higher rating because I never understood this cliche double standard bullshit trope that finds obnoxious women so funny in anime/manga. If its a guy, everyone punches him or goes a bit extreme for one little mistake, but when its a girl everyone finds their antics funny, even when she abuses said guy (much like a normal episode of Inuyasha, Prison School, or anything Noelle does in Black Clover when it comes to Asta) or likes to punch him on a regular basis.

Also, there is a fun moment where Tsukasa makes a keen observation about Aya being a bit similar to Nasa in terms of personality traits such as being clumsy with words and talks a lot when nervous. Those two would seem like a good pairing if not for Tsukasa being the romantic lead and actually caring about Nasa. And just as Tsukasa makes a decent breakfast for the two of them, the episode ended on a rather interesting cliffhanger at the end that could potentially address one of my major grievances about Tsukasa as a character.
