English Dub Review: Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure Golden Wind:“Crush and Talking Mouth”

Overview (Spoilers Below)

As Tiziano & Squalo’s ambush on Bruno’s gang continues. Crush has managed to go in for the kill and attack Giorno, thereby disabling him, and proceeds to drag him along in the puddles while evading Narancia’s Stand powers. Nonetheless, the duo is aware that Narancia can detect CO2 and thus track Giorno. Although Squalo baits Narancia into opening the way to the sewers, Giorno even while unconscious and bleeding he still manages to have a few tricks up his sleeve. Thus Narancia is able to chase Crush until he’s cornered within the restaurant’s kitchen.

Of course, Crush tries to put Narancia at a disadvantage by leaking gas from the kitchen stoves to prevent him from opening fire with his Stand Powers, But Narancia cleverly finds a way around this while also injuring crush, but Tiziano intervenes and uses Talking Mouth to bait the team into the kitchen room and trick Guido into setting the gas off on stove by firing his gun.

Predictably, Guido’s gunfire was not without consequence as an explosion ensues Knocking most of them out, but an injured Giorno uses this opportunity to tell Narancia to focus on finding both Stand Users. In response to this, Narancia listens and gives chase to Tiziano and Squalo until he successfully finds them. And to add insult to self-injury, Narancia cuts out his own tongue containing the “Talking Mouth” Stand and replaces it thanks to Giono’s Stand Powers causing Tiziano to panic and drastically change his breathing patterns leading to Narancia’s badass moment. With the two enforcers now defeated, The episode ends on a determined note as Bruno’s crew departs from the Venice canals towards the airport to catch a plane to Sardegna.

Our Take

If I had any minor complaints, it would be the same ones as the previous episode due to the plot-contrivance. The entire fight only followed through because Bruno’s whole gang (excluding Giorno) suddenly couldn’t grasp that there was something wrong with Narancia when they know they were gonna be hunted down by Stand users sent by their now Ex-Boss. Even for a Jojo episode, it was hard to comprehend.

Aside from those grievances, I did think the chemistry between Squalo and Tiziano really shined for them as villains. They were oddly close to each other as if they were a couple, and kept thinking they were going to make out with how close-knit their implied “relationship” came across, and their overly dramatic reactions the two had when their asses were handed to them by Narancia were top-notch. This was once again Narancia’s moment to shine even if it seems minimal to Bruno’s gang. Onward to Sardegna!
