English Dub Review: Star Blazers “Gravestone on a Frozen Field”
They just don’t make them like this anymore.
Overview (Spoilers Below)
The Yamato lands on a moon to check out a distress call and do a little mining when all of a sudden Gamilians show up and big ol’ battle ensues. Susumu helps win out the battle and discovers that the planet they are on holds the crashed ship that belonged to his brother. Afterwards, the crew leaves, but not before a proper memorial is set for Yukikaze.
Our Take
I think maybe my favorite part of Star Blazers is just how THROWBACK this series is. Everything from the gadgetry to the music and anything in between is so of the time that whenever I watch this show I think, “Yea, that’s indicative of an era that founded Star Trek, Star Wars, and Aliens”.
Star Blazers hits us with another well thought out episode that finally deals with Susumu’s coping with the passing of his brother and with the memorial we can maybe close this chapter in the book. The fight scenes were awesome as usual and yea, there is an obvious romance that has begun to brew that could have repercussions later on. By far and away, this series is becoming the benchmark for space animation, regardless of show’s origin.
