Review: Pig Goat Banana Cricket “BananaLand”
Spoilers Below
Banana builds his own theme park after he isn’t allowed to ride any of the rides at the other park. The safety inspector shows up to make sure “Bananaland” is up to code, but the roller coaster may be a disaster.
Cricket needs to hire a new lab assistant after Burgerstein goes missing. Enter Long John Stupid who seems promising at first, but he sucks so Thomas Jefferson shows up. Mr. Nickel doesn’t last too long either and Cricket is committed to doing a lasagna brain transplant. Rasta Rat shows up and proves to be the reliable assistant, and the lasagna turns into a monster, but thanks to a crash landing from Banana and Ms. Owl, we find Burgerstein who saves the day.
Goat joins a band of country bears that are actually animatronic attractions for a Chuck E Cheese-esque restaurant. Eventually, the robots start to break down and die, but Goat continues to play on with the band constantly looping their own tracks. The robots go crazy and it gains a HUGE following from the townsfolk. Goat claims its experimental grindcore which is a brand RIGHT up my alley.
Pig takes care of the house while his roommates are away doing whatever. Eventually, Pig just destroys everyone’s room, the worst of which is Cricket’s when he decides to cause his termites to get huge and begin eating the treehouse. Fortunately, Pig is able to get the termites to puke back up the entire house before Goat and Cricket are able to get home, but Banana shows up and destroys shit anyway. Bananaland gets its safety inspection deed and the guys ride the coaster until it’s crumbs.
Our Take
This week’s episode is interesting because it splits right down the middle between home-based adventures and parodies between cheap destinations. I definitely enjoyed the paradoxical amusements a lot more because they hit closer to home. Banana’s attempts to get a park going is a thread that continues through the entire episode, and in any other show, you would have been shocked that he received the pass from the safety inspector, but not this one. And while the Goat bit has been done a couple of times before, the full-on dissolution into a metal show was something that I’m sure was a Johnny Ryan touch. And who would have thought that Sanjay and Craig and Pig Goat Banana Cricket would have back-to-back metal themes? Love IT!
Cricket’s deal was a bit typical for him for my liking, but I quite enjoyed the fight between Burgerstein and the possessed lasagna. Pig’s bit was pretty great too, especially the gross concept of puking termites. I couldn’t quite wrap my head around some of the plot holes, though, and I know I shouldn’t go here, but I am. Banana did a decent amount of damage to the house leading up to the final act, and yet none of that was accounted for. I’m probably reaching for straws that I shouldn’t be in that regard, but I couldn’t help but think about it.
In any case, one of the better episodes of this series in a few weeks.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
