Review: Fugget About It “Just Stick It In There Doo-Dad”

This review is a little later, but better late than never, right? “Fugget About It” is back in action entering their third season! The show has had a lot of success in it’s first few seasons, being one of the mainstays on Teletoon at Night before moving to Adult Swim Canada. They’ve also become available to American audiences on Hulu. You can expect a lot of Canadian stereotypes as well as Italian-American stereotypes. It’s like french fries and frosting, a weird combination, but it just works.
The show follows ex-mob member, Jimmy McDougal, formally known as Jimmy Falcone, and his family. After whacking his crime boss to protect Uncle Cheech, he and his family were placed into witness protection and moved to Saskatchewan, Canada. Now the Italian-American family has to cope in the Great White North and it’s rarely ever easy!

After visiting the Fugget About It guys at 9 Story back in September, I was very excited to see what they would bring to the table in their third season. Was it any good? Well, read on to find out!
In “Just Stick it in There Doo-Dad” Jimmy is in the dog house with Cookie, so Uncle Cheech organizes a romantic getaway, but it isn’t exactly what they were expecting. Meanwhile, the kids are off to Summer camp. Gina befriends a boy, but he turns out to be connected to the family’s past”

This was a really good episode! Of the three season premieres, this may be my favorite. I’d have to think about it a little more, but there was a lot to like about this episode. If somebody is new to the show, I think this episode really highlights everything that makes the show great. The characters were engaging and funny and by the extension, so was the writing. The two subplots were thought out well, they felt original. We’ve seen cookie cutter plots for a number of TV shows, this is especially true for comedies, but they steered clear of that crutch and remained unpredictable. The show throws a lot of crude humor at the audience, but at the end of the day you can always see that these characters love one another. They give each other a hard time, but they are a strong unit.

Most season premieres usually come out swinging, so there wasn’t much in the way of negatives for this episode. Theresa, the family’s oldest daughter, felt a little underutilized in this episode. She popped up for a few funny moments throughout the episode, which for the story seemed to work best, but I don’t think she added very much to the episode overall.

Overall, it was a strong outing for Fugget About It. If this episode is any indicator of what to expect from the rest of the season, I’d recommend jumping on board now.
