Kevin Smith talks up the potential of bringing back ‘Clerks: The Animated Series’
Yahoo! recently ran a story that saw writer Ethan Alter interview my fellow Highlands, NJ transient Kevin Smith about how ahead of its time the Clerks: Animated Series really was when it premiered in 2000 on a network that had no business in getting that show (ABC).
One of the major sticking points of the article had to do with the possibility of the series coming back. Turns out, Miramax has the rights, and this is a good thing, because if Disney/ABC had the rights you’d never see this fucking show again. Even if Miramax is up for sale, that just means there’s a possibility someone buys the company, looks at its assets, and says “What can we do with these?”
First stop…streaming services. As the article noted, Clerks: The Animated Series is one of the few classic cartoons not available on either Hulu or Netflix. If I’m a buyer, the first thing I’m doing is plunking down my considerable assets into a service like that so as to start making some money on them. Next, Kevin noted that he’s got ideas for a bunch more episodes of the short-lived animated series. Guess what? Gain enough popularity, and that’s what happens…as a matter of fact, Metalocalypse is doing that as we speak.
So, I loved this piece because it validates how good Clerks: The Animated Series really was. And as a personal interest to me, if we get more Clerks cartoons, we get fewer Clerks movies blocking Leonardville Road in Leonardo every time I wanna go see my mother.
In the meantime, Kevin’s hetero-life mate Jay Mewes is producing the follow up to the Jay and Silent Bob: Super Groovy Cartoon Movie.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
