Review: THE AMAZING WORLD OF GUMBALL ”The Crew”

Marvin and Gumball decide they want to join up with a new crew called the ‘Senior Citizenz’ comprised of Marvin, Betty, and Donald. This crew is said to be the most hardcore crew in town, so the Watterson boys spend half of the episode trying to make themselves look like they belong to the group. Once they get in, Marvin and Gumball are given a task by the crew to take a hit out on an ex-member named Louie. This leaves Marvin and Gumball in a tough spot because they don’t want to go through with the assignment, so they take off running with the Senior Citizenz in close pursuit. The chase ends, and the two parties come to terms with a separation.

Our Take

My favorite thing about the show, i.e. the varied styles of animation, were fully on display this week and I loved every minute of it. From live-action to CG and everything in between, you couldn’t help but wonder how the hell these producers pulled that kind of shit off. That’s actually one of the things, I thought was a drawback this week, was that the build up to the portion of the episode in which the Wattersons actually make it to the gang was so short, I kinda wish this one was turned into a 30-minute episode.

The meat and potatoes of the episode was certainly the chase between the gang and the boys, with slow-mo almost Friday like gang direction, and mesmerizing choreography as the chase came to a close. More of this would’ve sent me over the moon, but I still leave a happy camper.
