Review: Kirby Buckets “The AV Kid”
Spoilers Below
Kirby wants a video of him losing a rap battle to his mother to be taken down from the Internet, but he can’t do that unless he’s a member of the AV Club. When he starts being friends with another member of the AV Club, Chip, things get crazy, like when the kid hijacks the school’s PA system and starts singing songs about Kirby.
When Kirby stops considering Chip a friend after a bunch more crazy shit, Chip gets pissed and starts thinking that since Fish and Eli are already Kirby’s friends, that there’s no room for a third friend and he wants to get ultimate revenge on Kirby. Chip even heads into Kirby’s home and makes dinner for all of the Buckets. This causes Kirby to just LOSE it, and takes all of his aggravation out on Chip.
Meanwhile, Eli gets $3000 and has to deal with the pressure of having so much. They use it to invest in a device called the ”fly spy”, an invention from President Mitchell that automatically zips up a downed zipper. On the day of the presentation of the fly spy to investors, Chip hacks the network and embarrasses Kirby’s friends. In the end, when it’s heard that Chip is “stupid rich”, his punishment is having to pay for the fly spy.
Our Take
There was actually a whole bit about Belinda and Dawn being addicted to bubble wrap, but my mind was so numb after watching 10 seconds of that that I didn’t even bother. Reason being, the rest of the episode was pretty damn good if I do say so myself.
I couldn’t help but constantly see the homages to the popular Jim Carrey movie The Cable Guy, so much so that Jim’s character in that movie and Alex Calloway’s character in this episode of Kirby Buckets share the same name…”Chip”. Throw in a plot that centers around a dude that decides to exact revenge on a former best friend, even going so far as to join the protagonist’s family for dinner. The ending would more or less be when the show decides to go off on its own, but it was and ending to a plot that I invested very little time into, as I was fearing yet another headache, due to the fact that you could tell that Disney XD’s standards and practices were all over that one from the get go.
Score
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
