Sia Reveals She Was The Vocalist on Fictional ‘South Park’ Lorde Song

I Am Lorde

Last season, South Park struck comedy gold with their Lorde-themed episodes, in which Randy Marsh claimed he was actually the female vocalist. After someone at SPIN Magazine couldn’t take a joke, the plotline turned into a season-long arc, which eventually spawned an in-episode song called “Push (Feel Good On A Wednesday).” Although many unfamiliar with today’s music (like myself) thought the track’s singer sounded a lot like Lorde herself, those more in-tune believed it to be fellow Aussie Sia instead.

Turns out they were right.

“Yeah, it was me,” she admitted. However, Sia revealed she wasn’t the author of the lyrics – an achievement that actually belongs to South Park co-creator Trey Parker.

“Trey wrote it,” Sia said. “I was like, ‘Dude, you need to do this for a living’. That ‘push push’ chorus is so catchy, it’s crazy. When I realized it might be mean to Lorde I felt bad, but I went ahead and did it anyway. I figured she’d find it funny. I love her!”

Luckily, Lorde indeed found it to be quite humorous.

“I have officially been the subject of 2 south park episodes and that is weird and cool,” Lorde posted on Twitter. “I don’t actually watch south park but from what i can tell sia was involved and someone’s mum said something really nice about me.. score!” she added, referring to the praise from character Stan Marsh’s mom, Sharon.

“We actually, in my hotel room, went ‘Ya ya ya ya ya I’m Lorde! Ya ya ya!’ for like an hour, because that’s why they do on the episode, so…”

For those interested, Lorde recently revealed that she’ll begin recording her second album next month. Sia, on the other similar-sounding hand, announced her new album will be entitled This Is Acting.
