Review: Family Guy “Turkey Guys”
Spoilers Below
Happy almost Thanksgiving, my friends to the South! Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays, it’s one of the few days that I feel is truly about getting loved ones together and being thankful for the things in your life. Of course, as a Canadian my Thanksgiving was last month, so I hope you all have an excellent time with your family and/or friends. Speaking of Thanksgiving, the Griffins got everybody together to celebrate in last night’s new episode! I’m sure you’re curious to hear my thoughts, so let’s get this review started.
In “Turkey Guys” Lois discovers that the entire turkey she was planning to serve on Thanksgiving was devoured by drunken Peter and Brian. With not much time to spare, Peter and Brian must get on the road and find a new turkey in time for dinner. Meanwhile, with Peter out of the house, Stewie tells Chris that he is now the man of the house and must take on the responsibilities of the patriarch during all Thanksgiving festivities. As you can all imagine, Chris has a difficult time living up to the role.
“Turkey Guys” was a pretty fun episode. I found that is started out strong in the beginning with a joke revolving around a “JC Penny Parade”. That had me laughing right away, and to be honest I found that there were quite a few jokes in this episode that hit me the right way. Not all of them, but I’d say most. It’s cool to see Peter and Brian sharing a story again. The two characters are supposed to be best friends, yet I don’t feel they get much screen time together anymore. This is probably due to the popularity of the chemistry between Brian and Stewie, still I do enjoy Peter and Brian together. It really brings me back to the early days of the show. I’ve always found
Brian to be a great “straight man” for Peter.
Peter and Brian’s subplot was very well done, in my opinion. It was a bro road trip (broad trip) that felt like a good journey, with it’s highs and lows. Chris and Stewie’s subplot on the other hand sort of bored me. I don’t think the two characters play off each other very well. Almost any time they have screen time together, my interest slightly dies. Luckily, their story didn’t take up much time of the episode and it wasn’t necessarily horrible to watch. I just didn’t enjoy it as the other parts of the episode.
In addition to Chris and Stewie’s subplot in the episode, there were a few jokes I didn’t respond to well. One was with Peter and the turkey in the backyard, the other was with Brian and Peter in the car listening to Trains. One felt like a recycled Barry Manilow joke they did awhile back, the other was just really strange. I also didn’t like that the Brown family was left silent during every scene they were in. This is probably due to the voice actors not having any part in the episode, but I do feel like these characters are going to have to be used eventually. They had their own show, it seems sort of weird for them to just be silent background characters now.
Besides all that, I had a lot of fun with this episode. It’s probably my favorite episode of the season thus far. I laughed a lot and it held my attention. I was always interested in what was going to happen next. If Family Guy has dropped off your radar in recent times, I encourage you to at least check out this episode. I think you may enjoy it. Overall, it was an enjoyable half hour. I’m excited to see if the show can keep this momentum.
How did you guys like “Turkey Guys”? Enjoy it like I did? Didn’t care for it? Let us know. Also have a fun and safe Thanksgiving when it rolls around for you guys. Later!
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
