Review: Brickleberry “Write ‘Em Cowboy”
Can this Big be any good without Tom Hanks?
Spoilers Below
This week in Brickleberry, we get treated with Denzel turning Steve into the soundtrack to Brokeback Mountain, and Malloy gets the side of Big that Tom Hanks didn’t really have to deal with. You know, that whole needing a job to pay the bills thing is a pesky son of a bitch.
I actually thought the dirty side of Big was a funny tale, but tame compared to the past episodes so far this season. The weirdest thing that happened was the strippers getting really ugly after the lights come on, and even then, it’s nothing out of the normal. I mean, this isn’t Vegas. Anyway, Malloy blows through all of his money in the matter of 10 minutes at a strip club, and is forced to get a shitty job at a McDonalds knock off just to pay for a really shitty apartment.
Malloy as a full sized bear is weird to see, and having Tosh keep his voice was weird. Like I said, this was entertaining, but there wasn’t a whole lot going on. For the most part, this was a miss. Normally, both stories are hilarious, and glues you to the television so you don’t want to miss a second. However, this just mirrored real life for most people. Also, this was another week of no interaction between the two stories. However, the main story of Steve the Gay Country Star was well worth your time.
I’ll be straight up with you. This was where the money was. The way Denzel manipulated Steve into sounding and action like a gay country star was astounding. The amount of retarded that Steve is is beyond words. considering Denzel talked him into making a music video where he’s riding a dude. Denzel went as far to pull the mic cord out of the mixer when Steve was trying to tell the story behind his songs. However, like most plans, they fell by the wayside after Steve write a song that Denzel fucks with to make Steve sound like a white supremacist. I think people who don’t watch Brickleberry normally should watch this week, just for the hilarious songs.
The best part of this whole story was the fact that Steve didn’t even know until Denzel’s connection with the gay mafia forced Steve to get Steve to make his final song. Denzel making the switch from Steve: the Gay Cowboy to Steve: The White Supremacist was surprising, and I would have loved to see it sooner. I was dying while I was watching this, and I am sure that “Write ‘Em Cowboy” would have been better if Steve was forced to make it big in all of these different audiences.
One of the funniest moments of “Write ‘Em Cowboy” happened within five minutes, and it was the title sequence. Malloy was in his bubble armor that happened during the opening skit. I was rather surprised at how tame this episode was. The weirdest moment of the episode goes to Steve trying to get into the Guinness Book of World Records by shoving 39 rolls of dimes up his ass, only to be outdone by Shia LaBeouf with 40. The lack of interaction the two stories in “Write “Em Cowboy” was off-putting again this week, and it felt like we could have gotten two 15 minute episodes a la Spongebob or any other NickToon. Use Malloy’s story as a piss break, and enjoy Steve’s journey to a gay country star.
Also, I want to give a quick shout out to whoever is in charge of the Comedy Central Tumblr, because they are starting to crank out gifs for their shows just like Adult Swim and Toonami. These pictures are great, and get visual jokes over a lot better than regular jpegs. Please, keep this going, Comedy Central.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
